Frequently Asked Questions
What are media pads used for?
Media pads are replaceable filter inserts that slide into an electronic air cleaner frame to capture airborne particles from circulating HVAC air. ECOairflow media pads use Electronic Polarization Technology to attract and trap particles as small as 0.001 microns — including viruses, bacteria, wildfire smoke, allergens, and radon daughter progeny — before they recirculate through your home or building.
What is air filter media?
Air filter media is the material inside a filter that physically captures airborne contaminants. ECOairflow uses a patent-pending glass-fiber mesh media charged by Electronic Polarization Technology (EPT). Unlike mechanical pleated media that blocks particles by restriction, EPT media attracts particles electromagnetically across the full depth of the pad, delivering higher capture efficiency with a dramatically lower pressure drop.
How often should I replace my ECOairflow media pad?
ECOairflow recommends replacing media pads every 3 months for residential units (Models 1000, 1500, and Dynamo 1") and every 3–6 months for commercial units (Model 2300 and M-Series), depending on air quality conditions and usage load. An email pad-replacement reminder service is available at ecoairflow.com/email-reminders to help you stay on schedule.
What MERV rating do I need for my home or building?
Residential users typically benefit from MERV 11 (Model 1000) or MERV 12 (Model 1500, Dynamo 1") for whole-home filtration. Commercial buildings generally require MERV 13–14 (Model 2300 Dynamo 2"). Healthcare facilities such as hospital operating rooms require MERV 16A under ASHRAE 170. ECOairflow's lineup covers MERV 11 through 16, with Appendix J certified ratings available for medical applications.
Are ECOairflow media pads safe for homes with children, pets, or asthma sufferers?
Yes. All ECOairflow electronic air cleaners are UL 2998 Zero Ozone Verified, certified to emit ozone below 0.0005 ppm — well below regulatory thresholds set by the US EPA, FDA, NIOSH, CARB, and OSHA. They produce no harmful ozone byproduct, making them safe for households with children, pets, asthma sufferers, and those with respiratory sensitivities.
Can ECOairflow media pads replace my existing electronic air cleaner pads?
ECOairflow media pads are available in all industry-standard residential furnace cabinet sizes (e.g., 16x25, 20x25, 16x20) plus custom sizing for non-standard installations. They are also designed to replace pads in older residential EAC systems from brands such as Honeywell, AprilAire, Lennox, Trane CleanEffects, Carrier Infinity, and GeneralAire. Contact ECOairflow to confirm compatibility with your existing frame.
Do ECOairflow media pads qualify for LEED or green building credits?
Yes. ECOairflow products qualify for credits under USGBC LEED (EQ credits for IAQ and ventilation efficiency), WELL Building Standard, International Living Future Institute (ILFI), National Green Building Standard (NGBS), and Passivehaus. The low pressure drop also supports ASHRAE 90.1 fan power limitation compliance, contributing to overall building energy performance documentation.
