Frequently Asked Questions
What is Electronic Polarization Technology (EPT) and how does it work?
Electronic Polarization Technology creates a polarized electromagnetic field across a glass-fiber mesh pad. Incoming particles — including ultra-fine PM0.1 — are attracted and captured like a magnet across the entire pad depth, rather than being mechanically blocked on a surface as with pleated filters. This enables MERV 11–16 performance at a fraction of the pressure drop.
How small are the particles ECOairflow filters can capture?
ECOairflow electronic air cleaners capture airborne particles as small as 0.001 microns when powered. This includes viruses, bacteria, wildfire black carbon, radon daughter progeny, non-exhaust automotive pollution, and ultrafine PM0.1 particles — well beyond what standard MERV 8 or MERV 13 pleated filters can achieve.
Are ECOairflow filters safe — do they produce ozone?
All ECOairflow products are ETL-certified to UL 2998 Zero Ozone Verification and emit below 0.0005 ppm of ozone — effectively zero. This exceeds the ozone standards set by the US FDA, EPA, NIOSH, OSHA, and California CARB, making them safe for occupied homes, schools, and healthcare facilities.
Which ECOairflow model is right for my home?
The Model 1000 is the most affordable entry-level residential option at MERV 11. The Model 1500 upgrades to MERV 12 with a larger capture area and carbon filament design. The Dynamo 1" EAC is the premium residential choice, offering MERV 12, the lowest pressure drop in the lineup (0.11 in.w.c.), and a lifetime electronics warranty.
Can ECOairflow filters help with wildfire smoke and radon?
Yes. ECOairflow's EPT technology captures black and organic carbon particles from wildfire smoke and also traps radon daughter progeny (RDP) — the radioactive decay particles that carry long-term lung-cancer risk. Note: ECOairflow filters airborne RDP particles but do not replace active soil depressurization (ASD) systems for radon gas mitigation.
How often do I need to replace the pads, and what does maintenance involve?
Replacement pads should be changed every 3 months for residential applications and every 3–6 months for commercial use. Maintenance is tool-free: open the filter housing, remove the old pad, and drop in a new one. ECOairflow offers an email pad-replacement reminder service and a replacement pad subscription through ecoairflow.com.
Are ECOairflow commercial filters LEED and ASHRAE compliant?
Yes. The Dynamo 2" Model 2300 and M-Series qualify for LEED EQ credits, WELL Building Standard, ILFI, NGBS, and Passivehaus credits. They comply with ASHRAE 62.1 (2022), ASHRAE 90.1, and ASHRAE 241 (2023). The M-Series is additionally ASHRAE 170 and CSA Z317.2 compliant for hospital operating rooms and invasive procedure spaces.
